Tyres are one of the largest variable costs in a fleet operation and one of the most poorly monitored. Fleet Control tracks every tyre as a serialised asset from the moment it leaves the supplier — through every vehicle fitment, position rotation, retread, tread inspection, and procurement cycle — right up to the point of scrap or write-off.
The tyre inspection engine records tread depth measurements at each inspection point and automatically calculates the wear rate per kilometre driven. Using this wear rate, the system predicts the date on which each tyre will reach the configured minimum safe tread depth — giving procurement the lead time to order replacement tyres before a vehicle is grounded.

How It Works in Odoo 19
Register the Tyre
Each tyre is registered with serial number, brand, model, size, ply rating, purchase date, purchase cost, and supplier. The tyre enters the system as a new asset assigned to the tyre inventory location and is immediately traceable from day one.
Fit & Map Position
When a tyre is fitted to a vehicle, the fitment is recorded: vehicle registration, axle position (Front-Left, Front-Right, Rear-Left, Rear-Right, Spare), fitment date, and odometer at fitment. Complete position history is maintained across all vehicles and all positions throughout the tyre's life.
Inspect & Measure
Tyre inspections record tread depth at each position in millimetres, any visible damage, and the odometer at inspection date. Each new inspection automatically calculates the tread depth lost since the previous inspection and updates the running wear rate for that tyre.
Predict & Alert
Using the calculated wear rate in mm per 1,000 km, the system projects the date on which each tyre will reach the configured minimum safe tread depth. Procurement receives an advance alert. When a tyre reaches the threshold, a purchase order suggestion is automatically generated.
Custom erc_fleet_tyres module with fleet.tyre (asset record), fleet.tyre.fitment (position and vehicle history), and fleet.tyre.inspection (tread depth measurements) models. Wear rate is a computed field recalculated on each inspection. Lifecycle alerts via ir.cron scheduled actions. Write-off posts to account.asset disposal.
